happy tofurkey day
tomorrow, i meam. either way, i’ll be gone for a few days. this is my favorite holiday of the year.
have a great time everyone, hug your loved ones, laugh, eat, drink, get high, or whatever you want, but never forget to be thankful for what you have in this life.
yadda yadda
yeah, been too long. ah well, took me a while to recover from the ending of six feet under, so i was a bit out of touch with reality for a while.
i also ended up having to housesit for a friend of mine who lives in the castro for the past two weeks. now for those of you who don’t know san francisco, the castro is like the world mecca of the gay population. it’s a different world altogether. it’s 110% gay. or more. even the dogs are gay. possibly the trees as well. it was an interesting experience. don’t get me wrong, i like the castro to walk around during the day. it is full of great restaurants and coffee shops where you can just laze around, have brunch, read a book and people watch. oh yes… people watching is definitely my favorite activity in the castro.
you can see some random old guy walking around wearing only a brazilian bikini. you can see drag queens walking being as fabulous as ever. or as hairy as always. and the stares. yeah, gay guys stare. i know i do too. but it’s mostly for the sheer fun of observation. i’m an observer by nature. people fascinate me.
two weeks with no internet around me relaxed me enough. i always sat around in parks, street steps or coffee shops enjoying the sun and reading my david sedaris book “me talk pretty one day”. (buy it, please). and i came to realize that when i move back to the city, i can’t be this close to the castro. i like visiting the castro from time to time, but i was so overwhelmed in gayness by the end of the two weeks that i needed a break from all the rainbow flags, leather straps and sex shops that surrounded me.
to finish it all off, i randomly went to see two teams of typical american jocks playing football (the american kind) at the beach. the beach was obviously great. the sunset, incredible as usual in this part of the world. seriously, you must experience a californian sunset at least once in your life. either way, observing jock/frat-like behavior, where a bunch of straight wannabe-macho types play football against each other while getting wasted on beer was pretty interesting. of course, my a.d.d. kicks in and i was more involved in the frisbee game i was playing with a girl friend of mine, but still, the things that come out of their mouths… pure bliss.
and to top it all off. the joy of watching the clouds in the sky turn pink. the sea turning orange/yellow. and the big sun disappearing in the distance.
and once again, i got reminded how freaking lucky i am to be here.
