last.fm

September 28, 2006 at 4:52 am (Uncategorized)

although very late in the game compared to what it usually takes me to dive into new social technology, this has to be one of the best inventions ever… it’s called last.fm and although i’ve been playing with it for only a couple of hours i already love it.

it’s all about web 2.0. the whole premise is that everytime i now listen to music on my itunes, which is pretty much 100% of the time now, it automatically gets all the info and starts building your profile online according to your tastes and stuff. then it automagically creates streaming radio stations that anyone, friends or strangers, can tune into to listen to music that i love and stuff. also, adds reccomendations of other artists that i should like according to my playlists…

the cool little gizmo is that i can add a small automatic top 10 list to my blog. that’s the red thing you see on the sidebar to the right. it’s still empty now, cause i just started using it, but in a week or so it should automatically show the list of my top 10 songs or artists that i have listened that week.

cool huh?

ah well. gotta love it.

thanks viva.

i don’t care who you are, where you are or what you want to do, but please, please, please, go see this movie. the science of sleep is one of the most imaginative, beautiful movies that has come out in recent years.

another genius idea, in a genius city.
a statement on the need for green. the concept? if you “rent” out your own parking space near a meter for a while with a few coins, why not set up a mini-park on that space and enjoy some nature?

that’s precisely what these guys did. incredible.

so the big crazy party weekend has just gone past. it’s becoming this yearly tradition, saving this weekend to let it all loose…

too many thing happened, but let’s see whatever comes out of my memory bank:

… massive attack concert on friday, with all the special guest stars one could hope to see, including the girl from cocteau twins
… lovefest parade and dance festival. basically didnt stop dancing from 11am till late evening. ended up meeting a ton of burners that i hadn’t seen since last year’s burn.
… folsom street fair. enough said. ended up at some random house party playing bean bags on the street with one of the sisters of perpetual indulgence, sister Viva L’Amour des Hommes, and her drag queen companion, Candi. they were awesome and i hope to keep in touch with them.

I scored five goals.

it took me 49 mins and 47.5 seconds to get back to the city. swimming in cold water, big waves, strong currents and beautfiul scenery.

i was 232 overall, but 13 out of 27 in my age group.

priceless.
next time i’ll be much faster. can’t wait.

so since it’s been five years since the wtc tragedy, i’ve been noticing a lot of people in portugal are believing a whole bunch of internet-only video ‘documentaries’ made by conspiracy theorists about what happened that day.

it really bugs the hell out of me, how people don’t even question these theories. if you question anything the media tells you, you should definitely question what any obviously biased documentary portrays.

some of thet things this video defends:
– no plane ever crashed the pentagon as there is barely any wreckage, the wings weren’t found and the black boxes were not made public
– the planes that crashed were actually mostly empty as only a couple or so of people actually used their phones to call their families (this, by any means, really really pisses me off. i can’t believe anyone would actually believe this statement)
– the wtc collapsed because it was actually demolished with explosives that were inside the building.

and a ton of other things.
now, even though there’s a lot of things to say about how the administration handled the events, this post on my blog is just to make it easier to let people investigate a bit further scientific evidence that counteracts all these conspiracy theories.

a couple of really good links that i found just by doing a quick google search (i.e people apparently are too lazy to even search online):

blood

September 1, 2006 at 1:21 am (Uncategorized)

finally had a chance to do my blood tests this morning. they took four tubes of blood, so my arm is a bit sore, but otherwise i don’t miss that blood much.

not sure when i’ll hear from the lab, but they’re basically running a comprehensive test on metabolic panels, hiv, hepatitis, and tons other things.

i hate the waiting game.
